Changing a moment. Shifting directions.

We may not be able to change every circumstance in someone’s life, but we can change a moment that shifts their direction forever.

Hart Van Aardt is a South African non-profit foundation that brings people, relationships and resources around genuine human need — in Gauteng, the Western Cape and surrounding communities.

Who we are

A people-led foundation connecting genuine need with care, support and opportunity.

Hart Van Aardt Foundation exists to recognise moments where the right support, connection or opportunity can shift the direction of a person’s life. We bring together people, relationships and resources around genuine human need, responding practically while always looking for the opportunity that may help someone move forward.

Our roots and current focus are in Gauteng, the Western Cape and surrounding communities. Anyone can bring a need to our attention. Causes are primarily identified through our members, relationships and communities, then intentionally considered where we believe Omgee, Ondersteun and Opbou can make a meaningful contribution.

We do not believe every act of support must be large. Sometimes the right contribution, introduction or opportunity at the right time is enough to change what happens next.

Our positioning

A foundation that connects compassion with action, and genuine need with people, resources and opportunities that can make a meaningful difference.

One person had the vision. Many people answered the call. Together, they became Hart Van Aardt.

Our story

Where one gifting heart sparked a movement.

Sometimes, something extraordinary begins with something remarkably simple. For Hart Van Aardt, it began with a charitable purchase of a weekend away, a round of golf, and one person’s belief that an opportunity to give should never be wasted.

The story began when Van Aardt Cloete, founder of Hart Van Aardt, attended a charity golf day and purchased a weekend getaway in support of the cause. What could simply have been enjoyed as a well-earned weekend away soon became something much more.

He realised the weekend could be used as the catalyst for another event — one that could bring together friends, colleagues and like-minded individuals, not only to enjoy a day of golf, but to rally around a shared purpose: helping people in need. That idea became the first Hart Van Aardt Charity Golf Day, hosted in April 2025.

The first Hart Van Aardt Cup

What began as a simple idea brought together a small group of people with a heart for others. Spearheaded by Van Aardt, the group gathered for a day built around friendship, generosity and a little healthy competition. Two teams faced one another on the golf course, competing for what would become known as the Hart Van Aardt Cup.

But the real victory had very little to do with the scorecard. That first golf day showed what becomes possible when one person’s willingness to give inspires others to do the same. More importantly, it revealed that Hart Van Aardt had the potential to become something far greater than a single event.

From a golf day to a foundation

The momentum created in 2025 inspired the formal establishment of Hart Van Aardt as a non-profit organisation. A management structure was put in place, with dedicated people taking responsibility for identifying genuine needs, allocating resources responsibly and executing charitable projects capable of making a meaningful difference.

In doing so, Hart Van Aardt evolved from an act of individual generosity into a collective commitment to giving. At the heart of that journey remains the original vision: to give wherever possible, to use what is available, and to inspire the people around us to do the same.

What started with one purchased weekend became a golf day. That golf day brought together a small group of people. Those people became a community, and that community became a foundation.

Changing one moment at a time

Hart Van Aardt recognises that no charitable organisation can change every circumstance in a person’s life. But it can change a moment. It can provide support when someone needs it most, create an opportunity where there was none, bring relief during a difficult season, restore dignity, offer hope, or simply remind someone that they have not been forgotten.

That philosophy has become the heartbeat of Hart Van Aardt.

Vision, mission & purpose

The north star for every decision, partnership and moment of support.

Vision

A community where circumstance does not determine possibility, and people in need are treated with dignity, supported with compassion and connected to opportunities for a stronger future.

Mission

To identify meaningful needs, mobilise people and resources, provide practical support and connect individuals and communities to opportunities that can create lasting positive change.

Purpose

To use what we have, wherever we can, to leave people and communities better than we found them.

People first

We recognise the person before the circumstance and seek to understand the real need.

Opportunity

We look beyond relief for the education, development, relationship or opening that may change what happens next.

Together

We believe stronger outcomes are created when communities, donors, businesses and individuals bring their strengths together.

Care for the moment. Support the person. Build the possibility.

How we work

Anybody can bring a need to Hart Van Aardt. We listen, consider intentionally, and act where our heart, network and resources can make a meaningful difference.

1

See the need

A need may come through a member, a community, an organisation, a relationship or a direct approach.

2

Understand the person

We look beyond the request to understand the circumstances, the people affected and what support would genuinely help.

3

Select intentionally

We consider causes where Omgee, Ondersteun or Opbou can be meaningfully applied and where our involvement can add real value.

4

Mobilise the heart

We bring together donors, volunteers, businesses, members, skills, goods and other resources around the need.

5

Connect the opportunity

Where possible, we look for the education, development, relationship or opportunity that can influence what happens next.

6

Follow through

We value relationships, follow through on what we commit to, and remain connected where continued involvement can make a difference.

Everyday essentials. Meaningful support.

For vulnerable babies and children, everyday essentials are part of everyday care. Nappies, formula, wipes, clothing and other basic supplies help care teams provide comfort, dignity and consistent care.

Through our support of Heartlands Baby Sanctuary and Daybreak House for Vulnerable Babies, Hart Van Aardt contributed essential baby-care items that are used where they matter most — in the daily care of children.
